Brackets: The Optimization Game
Brackets is a fun puzzle game that is sure to make you think. The goal is simple; find the set of boxes whose combined area is the greatest total sum of all possible combinations of boxes. Boxes are made by connecting the brackets on the gridboard. Sounds easy? Wait until the special pieces are added!
How to Play:
Connect brackets that face each other to form boxes. Brackets are connected by dragging a box between the two of them, or by clicking one bracket and then clicking on its pair.
Brackets come in three different configurations, but can only be used once per puzzle.
If a box contains a special piece, then the special piece is trigged. These pieces have a variety of effects, and its important to understand how each will affect the gameplay in order use them effectively.
To Solve A Puzzle
The score of each move is its area. Each move sums together. To solve a puzzle, find the highest possible score, shown in the target box.
Bracket Pieces
These are just a couple of the possible brackets in the game. A black piece can match with another piece somewhere on the board. A grey piece cannot. A red piece can match with the currently selected bracket. When you get a hint, the brackets you are supposed to use will be blue.
Blocks
These are blocks. When triggered, blocks prevent brackets from connecting if their box includes the Block. If the Block is untriggered, making a bracket box over it will trigger it.
Multipliers
A multiplier is a simple piece that multiplies the score, or the area, of a box by 2. Bigger boxes benefit more than smaller boxes with this piece.
Fixed Scores
The fixed score piece is an Acsibi favorite. A box that triggers this piece will get the fixed score regardless of the size of the box.
Bombs
A bomb is just what it sounds like. It will explode everything within 3 cells when it becomes triggered. Keep your head down when it goes Ka-Boom!
Gears
The gear, upon being triggered, causes each bracket to rotate clockwise by 90°. Plan well to make the most of this piece.
Vortex
The vortex has dramatic effects on the puzzles. When triggered, all of the brackets within 6 units will spin around the vortex by 90 degrees. When combined with the gear, the vortex will blow your mind.
